5 Ways to Get Yourself into Shape for Baseball Season
Method #1
If you’re just getting back into your training routine and haven’t put much work into exercise at all during the winter, you’ll need to whip yourself back into shape rather quickly. Start by focusing on plenty of cardio, as you’ll need to drop any extra pounds you may have gained while overeating in the off season, as well as build up your endurance for games that may run hours over schedule. Running on a treadmill at your local gym is fine, but changing up your routine will help prepare you for the more versatile endurance tasks required in baseball.
Method #2
If you’re more concerned about how your hitting accuracy is holding up after a long vacation, you’ll want to take a trip down to the batting cages. By practicing your swings against a pitching machine, you can fine tune your swinging for more accurate timing and better overall bat-to-ball contact. Just be sure to pick a pitching machine at the proper speed, as a slow pitch machine may not provide you with the level of training you’ll need to get back up to speed in time.
Method #3
When the weather gets a little nicer out and as you get closer and closer to the approaching season, you’ll want to actually hit the field and play some practice games to get back into the feel of things. Facing off against a pitching machine is an excellent training method, but you’ll want to face the unpredictability of an actual human pitcher as you get closer to opening day. Plus, you really can’t practice your fielding or many other areas inside of a batting cage, so playing on an actual field should really benefit your game. Try your hardest to get other players of a similar talent level to play with you, though anyone will do if you’re having trouble scrounging up highly experienced volunteers. Follow through on all 3 of these methods and you should be in much better shape to play baseball come the start of the season.
